A March 23, 1999, file photo of a roadside marker along U.S. 52 in Inver Grove Heights, Minn. that located the site of Medicine Bottles' Village, later renamed Pine Bend. Around 2004, when a bridge and interchange were built at 117th Street, the marker was taken down brick by brick — and stashed away. Kandiyohi County and City of Willmar Economic Development Commission executive director Aaron Backman created a half-page glossy brochure to complete promotion of the four-lane highway on state Highway 23 between Willmar and Interstate 94. The brochure says Willmar is the largest outstate city without four-lane access and that having a four-lane highway will attract and retain businesses and jobs in the region.
