Milton Hoidal, 96, of Montevideo, served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II. One of five surviving World War II veterans in Montevideo, he will raise the flag Saturday at the Minnesota Twins game.

Lowell Blikre, principal investigator with Bear Creek Archeology of Cresco, Iowa, shows the bands of soil in an excavation site at the confluence of the Chippewa and Minnesota Rivers in Montevideo. The bands are the result of flooding at the site over the past 2,000 year, and each band holds the artifacts from different occupations there. Eight different occupations were identified.
