Willmar loses state wrestling quarterfinal, now faces Maple Grove

Willmar eighth-grader Clay Carlson got the Cardinals (20-4) off to a good start with a 5-3 overtime victory in the Willmar's consolation semifinals against Maple Grove. The Cardinals won 36-26 and will face Moorhead for the second year in a row in the consolation championship, which the Spuds won last year. In the quarterfinals, Willmar fell to Hastings 42-21 in their first-round match.

ACGC will face Chatfield in the Class A championship match against Thursday evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
