The stained glass, pews and even a body buried under the altar come with the sale of St. Paul’s Church-on-the-Hill. The Episcopal church closed last year due to dwindling attendance. Whoever buys it can’t be tear down the sanctuary, because the structure is protected from alterations to the exterior as part of both a national and a city historical preservation district. Demolition begins Tuesday of the old Lebanon Church in New London. Community members gathered to watch the historic building come down. Property owner Peace Lutheran Church found no buyers for the building, which would have needed a million dollars in renovations, and the decision was made to demolish it. The 140-year-old Lebanon Church in New London will be demolished next month.  Members of Peace Lutheran Church, which owns the old church and property, delayed action for six months hoping that a buyer would step forward.
