Jim Halsey, 88, who served with the Marines in the South Pacific in WWII, stands by the Clover Leaf Cemetery grave of his father-in-law Irving Nelson, who fought in Europe in WWI. Jim and his wife Shirley, 87, had just finished caring for the grave marker. The American Legion, VFW and other groups will place over 1,800 flags at the graves of veterans in the Willmar area. Bremer Banks employees from Willmar, Redwood Falls and Marshall make valentines on Monday at the Willmar Conference Center that will be sent to veterans at Kandiyohi County nursing homes, Eagles Healing Nest in Sauk Centre, State Veterans Home at Luverne  and overseas. The service project on the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday was coordinated by the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., Minnesota Chapter 1 Willmar.
