File photo / Tribune  The massive holiday light display, Celebrate the Light of the World, will begin to take shape at Robbins Island over the next several weeks. Willmar Fests took over the display from the Koosman family earlier this year and plans to have it open for visitors starting Thanksgiving night.

At the Robbins Island beach bathrooms, even when closed, the facilities have been targeted by vandals. At one point, they climbed on the roof and pushed six plastic bottles down the vent and then poured sand into the vent. The Robbins Island bathrooms at the beach have been closed for the most part, only open at certain times.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has added Willmar Lake to its draft list of impaired water bodies in the state. The designation may aid efforts to improve water quality in the Willmar Chain of Lakes, shown above, including Foot, Willmar, Swan and Skataas.

Walkers of all ages cross the starting line of the Alzheimer's Walk Saturday morning at Robbins Island in Willmar. Many sported their purple colors in honor of a loved one lost to Alzheimer's or dementia. The seventh annual event reportedly drew a record number of walkers with well over 550 participants and 39 teams. The walk brought in $54,000 on a goal of $68,000, according to organizers. People can still make a donation at and search Willmar, through December 31.

Two new patios, complete with picnic tables and additional seating, will be constructed at the Robbins Island playground in the next few weeks. One will be located in the green space just to the left of the playground entrance, while the second will be in the section of grass right across from the playground.
