The city of Willmar is considering the sale of 18.4 acres in the Industrial Park on the west side of Kandiyohi County Road 5 for a package sorting and distribution center. The business interested in the parcel is as yet unnamed but is a "big player," according to city staff.

The Willmar City Council has approved sending a letter of interest to the U.S. General Services Administration, who is trying to find a new owner for the Duluth Harbor South Breakwater Outer Light. The structure is currently located in the Duluth Ship Canal on Lake Superior and has been determined to be excess property by the United States Coast Guard.

The Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership was awarded a $600,000 deferred forgivable loan to help it acquire and rehabilitate the Hanson Apartments on Lakeland Drive Southeast. The loan is part of Willmar's $1,205,177 from the Small Cities Development Program.

Signs hang Thursday outside of the main Willmar Community Education and Recreation office in Jefferson Learning Center in Willmar. The Willmar City Council and the Willmar School Board approved the agreement earlier this week to dissolve the partnership as of Sept. 1 and re-establish separate recreation and community education departments.

The current site of the Willmar city offices seemed a popular choice for a new city hall among residents who attended a public input meeting recently. Many at the meeting said a new city hall is needed and that it should remain downtown. The council will discuss sites at Monday's meeting.

It was a packed house Jan. 30 at the Vision 2040 Refresh Event at the Willmar Conference Center. The event was held to receive input on what Willmar area community members would like their community to look like in the next twenty to thirty years.

The Willmar Brush Site is open for city residents only to dispose of leaves, grass clippings and garden clippings. Logs no bigger than 18 inches in diameter are also allowed.
