A truck mounted with the “icebreaker” moves through the slush and compacted snow Tuesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 12 west of Willmar. Commonly used in Alaska, Minnesota purchased three icebreakers that are shared by Minnesota Department of Transportation districts.

The late-winter storm brought everything from freezing rain to snow throughout Monday, and blustery winds added to difficult travel conditions across much of Minnesota.

Although the castle is gone, Winterfest activities continue through mid-February, including the Polar Plunge Saturday and pond hockey tournament on Green Lake.
