ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (AP) — Two people were taken to a hospital from a house fire near Alexandria in western Minnesota. Douglas County sheriff's authorities say dispatchers received the call at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Two victims were taken from the burning house with burns and smoke inhalation. They were taken to Douglas County Hospital. Authorities don't know the extent of the victims' injuries. The house is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former priest who denies accusations of sexual abuse from the 1960s and 1980s has been suspended from teaching sex education for Wright County. The Star Tribune reports ( http://strib.mn/1hBuoZq ) Harry Walsh has taught birth control, sexual disease prevention and human sexuality for the Wright County Human Services Agency in Buffalo for 16 years. County Commissioner Charles Borrell said the county board voted Monday to cancel Walsh's contract effective Jan. 31, 2014.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — A statewide change to police and firefighter pension rules could encourage more municipal employees to retire sooner. Police and firefighters can retire early at age 50, though official retirement age is 55. Current law reduces an employee's retirement benefit by 1.2 percent for each year before 55 that they retire. But the St. Cloud Times reports ( http://on.sctimes.com/18HPK77 ) the Legislature made a change last session that would increase that penalty to 5 percent.
