WASHINGTON — Medical claims costs — the biggest driver of health insurance premiums — will jump an average 32 percent for Americans’ individual policies under President Obama’s overhaul, according to a study by the nation’s leading group of financial risk analysts. The report could turn into a big headache for the Obama administration at a time when many parts of the country remain skeptical about the Affordable Care Act. The estimates were recently released by the Society of Actuaries to its members.
FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Nick Markakis joined his Baltimore teammates to play Tuesday, and that was a pleasant sight for the Orioles. Markakis went 1 for 5 in his return to the lineup while Twins pitcher Liam Hendriks exited early after being struck in the hand by a line drive in Minnesota’s 9-5 win over the Orioles. Markakis was the designated hitter in his first exhibition game since March 1 after recovering from a herniated disk in his neck. The outfielder was limited to 104 games last season because of hand and thumb injuries.
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Nikola Pekovic had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 105-82 rout of the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night. Barea matched a season-best with 21 points for Minnesota, while Luke Ridnour scored 15 and Ricky Rubio added 14 points and nine assists.
MINNEAPOLIS — When Norwood Teague took over as athletic director at Minnesota, he knew it would take a little time for him to get up to speed with all the intricacies of major college football. Teague came from Virginia Commonwealth, which doesn’t have a football team, and so immersing himself in the sport was one of his top priorities. One thing Teague did know, and know well, was basketball. He and associate Mike Ellis have long prided themselves on being plugged in to the coaching world and familiar with what is needed to identify quality coaches and build a strong program.
