MINNEAPOLIS — Kyle Gibson has finally joined the Minnesota Twins, a long-awaited promotion the team is counting on being permanent for the former first-round draft pick. Gibson was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Sunday. Set to wear No. 44, Gibson has been slated to start for the Twins on Saturday at Target Field against the Kansas City Royals. With the scars from a major surgery still fresh, Gibson has been treated carefully.

NEW YORK (AP) — Paula Deen will appear on NBC's "Today" show on Wednesday, according to host Matt Lauer. Lauer's announcement came Monday, three days after the celebrity cook abruptly canceled on the morning show, where she was scheduled to answer questions about her past use of racial slurs. Lauer said Deen "told us she will be here this time." While questioned last month in a discrimination lawsuit, the 66-year-old Food Network star admitted to using the N-word in the past, but she insisted she and her family do not tolerate prejudice. D
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has sent a Texas case on race-based college admissions back to a lower court for another look. The court's 7-1 decision Monday leaves unsettled many of the basic questions about the continued use of race as a factor in college admissions. Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, says a federal appeals court needs to subject the University of Texas admission plan to the highest level of judicial scrutiny.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court has rejected challenges to Environmental Protection Agency decisions allowing an increase in ethanol content in gasoline. The justices on Monday left in place a federal appeals court ruling that dismissed challenges by trade associations - representing the oil industry, food producers, restaurants and others - to EPA decisions allowing a gasoline blend of up to 15 percent ethanol. The national gasoline supply is largely a blend with 10 percent ethanol.

The Minneapolis-based utility has been working for days to restore power following a series of severe thunderstorms that swept through Minnesota and western Wisconsin from Friday to early Saturday. At the peak of outages more than 550,000 Xcel Energy customers were without service.
