ST. CLOUD — Two men who harassed and then stole a vehicle belonging to a Lyft driver in St. Cloud died after they crashed the vehicle into a grove of trees southeast of the city early Tuesday morning, Nov. 13. According to a news release, the two men were picked up by a 46-year-old Lyft driver in the southeast part of town about 1 a.m. and he drove them around for a short period of time as they didn’t appear to know where they were going.
DULUTH, Minn. -- Minnesota Duluth junior Riley Tufte has plenty to motivate him in Year 3 with the Bulldogs. The former Blaine High School wing is not only chasing a second national championship at UMD, he’s also entering a pivotal year professionally. After taking him in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft, the Dallas Stars are likely to pull out all the stops in an attempt to sign Tufte this offseason.

ST. PAUL -- St. Paul's Como Zoo is now home to two recently orphaned mountain lion cubs. The cubs, who arrived at the zoo on Oct. 30, come from different areas of northern California. They are a male and female, about 8 to 12 weeks old. Mountain lions are also known as pumas or cougars.
EDINA, Minn. -- A look at Minnesota’s congressional maps shows a Republican ring nearly encircling the Twin Cities. Could this be the year Democrats break through? Democrats are banking on challengers Angie Craig and Dean Phillips — neither of whom has held political office — to win over suburban voters to the south and west of the Twin Cities. Craig is in a rematch with U.S. Rep. Jason Lewis for the 2nd District, and Phillips is trying to unseat five-term U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen in the 3rd District.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Gophers men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino gave his team four barely passing grades for its preseason performances against Creighton on Oct. 20 and in the Maroon and Gold intrasquad scrimmage Sunday. Pitino critiqued those competitions like he would a game and shared his marks on his blog: offense, C-minus; defense, D-minus; rebounding, C-minus; play without the ball, C-minus. “I wasn’t trying to be negative; I think that’s where we stand,” Pitino said Wednesday.
SEATTLE -- Jack Patera, the Vikings defensive line coach from 1969-75 and the first head coach of the expansion Seattle Seahawks in 1976, died Wednesday at his Seattle home. He was 85. Patera, who had pancreatic cancer, coached Minnesota’s legendary “Purple People Eaters” defensive line. It included hall of famers Alan Page and Carl Eller and iron man Jim Marshall.
EDMONTON, -- Mikael Granlund scored the tie-breaking goal at 14:12 of the third period as the Minnesota Wild defeated the host Edmonton Oilers 4-3 Tuesday night, Oct. 30.. Granlund's power-play goal, assisted by Eric Staal and Ryan Suter, gave the Wild their only lead of the game and helped them improve to 1-1-0 on their season-high, seven-game trip. Minnesota had a five-game winning streak snapped in a 5-2 loss Monday at Vancouver.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen has made it to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Or at least the ball he caught last Sunday to set an NFL record has.
