Folklore and facts met head-to-head on the history of Kandiyohi County's Snogo snowplow. Many in the county Highway Department had believed the plow was purchased in January of 1941 in response to the historic Armistice Day Blizzard in November of 1940. That storm killed 49 Minnesotans and created 20-foot snowdrifts in Willmar. Minutes from a Jan. 7, 1941, meeting of the Kandiyohi County Board show the purchase of a Snogo plow. This would have been about 1½ months after the storm.

WILLMAR -- Linda Ann Evans, 47, and Lance Anthony Klein, 56, both of Olivia, made their first court appearance Tuesday on second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools charges for allegedly entering a rural Lake Lillian residence Saturday, and stealing copper wire and piping from the home. Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 for both defendants. They also face misdemeanor theft and property damage charges. Their next appearances in Kandiyohi County District Court are scheduled for June 3.
WILLMAR -- Commencement ceremonies at Ridgewater College will be held today in Hutchinson and Friday evening in Willmar. The community and technical college expects to award degrees, diplomas and certificates to 383 Hutchinson graduates and 752 Willmar graduates. The Hutchinson ceremony will be at 7 p.m. today in the commercial building at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. The Willmar ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Willmar Civic Center.
ST. PAUL -- Minnesota is a Senate vote and a governor's signature away from becoming the 12th state to allow gay marriage. Same-sex marriage supporters are optimistic because the House was regarded as the biggest hurdle. After the bill passed the House surprisingly easily 75-59, they were euphoric. The Senate is due to take up the bill Monday and Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton says he will sign it.
