WILLMAR — Laura Swartz, above, was named 2015 Minneapolis Aquatennial Queen of the Lakes Friday evening at the Ted Mann Concert Hall on the University of Minnesota campus. Swartz, a 2012 graduate of Willmar High School, completed her year as the Willmar Queen of the Festivals in June. The daughter of Scott and Monica Swartz is a student at St. Thomas University in St. Paul. The Queen of the Lakes Coronation has been a part of the Aquatennial celebration since its first year in 1940.
Mention the Fourth of July and most people immediately think of fireworks. From the fireworks over the Mall in Washington, D.C., to the Taste of Minnesota fireworks in the Twin Cities, almost every large city has a fireworks show. West central Minnesota has its share, and they are spread out over four days this year. The accompanying photos are of the Willmar Stingers post-game fireworks Wednesday night in Willmar.
Katrina Lyn Muench and Zachariah Lee Johnson are engaged to be married in August at Stonewall Farms in Willmar. Katrina is the daughter of Robert and Terri Muench of Bird Island, She is a 2010 graduate of BOLD High School and a 2012 graduate of Alexandria Technical and Community College with a degree in interior design. She is employed by Glacial Plains Cooperative in Benson. Zachariah is the son of Richard Johnson of Willmar and the late Mary Lou Johnson. He is a 2007 graduate of Benson High School and a 2009 graduate of Ridgewater College with a degree in auto mechanics. He is employed
