CLIMAX, Minn.—A Neilsville, Minn., man who died in a crash Tuesday morning, Oct. 10, in northwest Minnesota was not wearing a seat belt, state troopers said. Jason Jerome Nelson, 36, died after the 1999 Chevrolet Blazer he was driving hit a 1993 GMC Aero semi just before 7 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The semi driven by 21-year-old Dalton Brian Fredrickson of Thief River Falls was stopped on U.S. Highway 75 about 2 miles south of Climax.
DULUTH, Minn. -- Medical examiners have identified human remains found Sept. 28 along the Duluth Lakewalk as that of William Robert Saker, a Duluth man who hadn't been since March 10. The Duluth Police Department said Tuesday, Oct. 10, that the Midwest Medical Examiner's office had not yet determined a cause of death, but police have already said that foul play was not suspected.
Pink balloons were released during a candlelight vigil for 21-year-old North Dakota State University student Ellie Helm Monday, Oct. 9, on the NDSU campus. Helm was killed in an ATV crash Friday evening, Sept. 29, in Wisconsin.
BEMIDJI, Minn.—Ralphie May, the nationally known stand-up comedian who had to cancel or postpone several regional shows last year because of his derogatory jokes about Native Americans, has died. Representatives released a statement Friday, Oct. 6, saying May, 45, had been battling pneumonia and was found dead Friday morning at a private residence in Las Vegas. The cause of death was cardiac arrest.
TENNEY, Minn.—A 21-year-old construction worker died after falling 150 feet from the top of an elevator here Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5, the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office reported. The man was working at the Wheaton Dumont Co-op Elevator with two other men on a platform. They were adjusting another platform to connect to the platform that they were on when the man fell, the sheriff's office reported. The accident was reported about 2:45 p.m. Tenney is about 25 miles southeast of Wahpeton-Breckenridge.
BEMIDJI, Minn.—Three people were arrested Thursday, Oct. 5, after an incident involving gunshots outside of a gas station just west of Bemidji. Police received a 911 call reporting gunshots at Pete's Place West at the 7100 block of Pete Lane NW, according to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies, Bemidji police and other law enforcement agencies responded to the scene.

In a news release Thursday, Oct. 5, Xcel announced the March 12 stop in St. Paul is among the 40-date North American arena tour stops for the international pop star. General admission tickets for P!NK, who has had four songs reach the No. 1 on the Billboard Top 100 and another 11 songs in the top 10, go on sale Oct. 13, and American Express members can purchase tickets Oct. 10-12. Ticket prices start at $47.45.
AITKIN, Minn.—A 34-year-old Palisade man was sentenced to 17½ years in prison for killing his infant daughter last November by throwing her 12 feet into the air and across a kitchen. John Douglas Peterson was convicted Sept. 27 in Aitkin County District Court of second-degree murder without intent in the death of the 5-week-old girl. A separate charge of second-degree felony murder was dismissed. Peterson was sentenced to serve his time at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. He was given credit for 36 days already served.
A 19-year-old Pine River man admitted in Cass County District Court in Walker to sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. William Pearl Schnoor was charged last fall with six felony criminal sexual conduct counts. He sexually assaulting the girl July 2, 2016, while staying at a relative's home in Pine River. The girl told investigators Schnoor woke her up and sexually assaulted her.
