A 29-year-old Grand Rapids, Minn., man who shot and critically injured his son before killing himself had battled depression most of his life, the Duluth News Tribune reported Friday, March 31. David Krauss was found deceased in a home Thursday just before 4 p.m. His son, Wyatt Krauss, 8, was also found wounded by a gunshot.

Teachers' union wants discipline change ST. PAUL — Crookston, Minn., teacher Kim Davidson says she has witnessed student outbursts that seemingly came out of nowhere, such as a boy who suddenly would become upset, throw things and run out of the room. Another student would hide under the table, scream and thrash her arms when Davidson tried to help her with homework. "I couldn't understand her over-the-top reaction to what I believed to be a simple request," Davidson said. Davidson later learned that both children experienced trauma.
ST. PAUL -- A man considered a person of interest in the 1989 abduction of Jacob Wetterling has filed a federal lawsuit against the county sheriff who investigated the case. Dan Rassier filed the suit Wednesday assigned to Judge Donovan W. Frank, according to court documents.

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. -- The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for the public’s assistance following a Thursday morning road rage incident where a man allegedly fired a handgun at another vehicle. Around 8:30 a.m. at westbound Interstate 694 and Highway 120 in White Bear Lake, a road rage incident began between two drivers.
BEMIDJI, Minn. — An International Falls teenager missing from Bemidji for more than a month has been found safe, according to a news release from the Bemidji Police Department. According to the release, 13-year-old Gary Tilander was located in Lidgerwood, N.D., after the International Falls Police Department received a tip from a "concerned citizen." The tip was then passed to the Bemidji Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Tilander was located at a Lingerwood residence.
COTTAGE GROVE, Minn. -- Police said a Woodbury man avoided serious injuries when he drove a vehicle over an embankment and into a drainage pond near Wal-Mart in Cottage Grove. The incident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 26. According to police, the 74-year-old man was test-driving a vehicle when he drove through a fence in the store parking lot. The vehicle went over the roughly 8-foot embankment, landing in the pond along East Point Douglas Road. Bystanders helped pull the man from the vehicle, and police then assisted the bystanders out of the water.
A toddler reported missing early Tuesday has been found safe after his father and another man allegedly abducted him and stabbed the boy's mother. In a message on its Twitter page, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said 2-year-old Harlen Hulbert is safe after he was abducted at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, from a home in south Minneapolis.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A Grand Forks native who once held the world record for shooting the most consecutive free throws has died. Dr. Tom Amberry, a retired podiatrist, died March 18 in Long Beach, according to media reports. He was 94 years old. Born Nov. 13, 1922, in Grand Forks, he was 6 feet 7 inches tall when he attended Grand Forks Central High School, according to Forum News Service archives. The left-handed shooter attended the University of North Dakota and played center for the basketball team.
