HINES, Minn. — A Hines man died in a home explosion and fire early Thursday, Nov. 9, in Hines Township, according to a press release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office received a call at about 3:39 a.m. and neighbors reported hearing a loud explosion and a residence engulfed in flames in the 18200 block of Lookout Tower Road in Hines Township, the release said. Hines Township is about 20 miles northeast of Bemidji, Minn.
RED LAKE, Minn. -- A third day of searches showed no sign of two Red Lake fishermen who went missing Monday after their boat capsized on Lower Red Lake in far northwest Minnesota. Searchers spent most of the day Wednesday looking for Deland Beaulieu, 29, and a 17-year-old boy, who were on the Red Lake Fisheries boat when it flipped. A post on the Red Lake Tribal Council’s Facebook page made late Wednesday afternoon said that the search had been called off for the day because of poor weather conditions. Beaulieu and the juvenile disappeared at about 3:43 p.m.
HASTINGS, Minn. — One of Hastings’ largest retailers is closing and it appears to be among a few in the region destined to shutter. The Target store in Hastings will close in February 2018, store team lead Sari Raway confirmed. Raway said the store’s closure was announced to employees Monday, Nov. 6. The store will remain open until Feb. 3.
MAHNOMEN, Minn. -- The body of a 33-year-old Naytahwaush man was discovered Monday, Nov. 6, in Mahnomen County after he went looking for help Sunday when his truck became stuck on a wooded trail.
RED LAKE, Minn. -- Rescuers are searching for two people who went missing after a boat capsized on Lower Red Lake on Monday afternoon. According to Red Lake staff, law enforcement discovered the commercial Red Lake Fisheries boat capsized at about 3:43 p.m. Three people were originally missing, but rescuers found one person, who was taken to the hospital at about 4:13 p.m. A search and dive team continued to look for the two other missing people as of 5:30 p.m. Police do not yet know why the boat capsized.

Some were on light poles, and one was at the business center at the private college in Moorhead, Minn.. MILLE LACS, Minn.—Mille Lacs Lake resort and business owners and fishermen received some good news Friday as the ice fishing season approaches. The walleye fishing will open on Friday, Dec. 1, with no bait restrictions and a limit of one walleye 20-22 inches or one longer than 28 inches.
HIBBING, Minn. — The body of a 24-year-old Hibbing man missing for several weeks was discovered in a snow covered ditch on a maintenance road at the former Essar Steel Minnesota property in Nashwauk Township. The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office said Curtis Strand’s body was found Wednesday, Nov. 1, and that the death does not appear to be suspicious. The body was taken to the Midwest County Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minn. for examination.
PARKERS PRAIRIE, Minn. -- One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 29 north of Parkers Prairie in Otter Tail County in western Minnesota on Wednesday morning. The State Patrol hasn’t yet released the name of the 71-year-old victim from Henning, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt. He was the driver of a 2001 Ford four-door pickup.
HOFFMAN, Minn.—A semi-truck with a tanker carrying hazardous fuel and a semi-truck with a grain trailer were involved in a fatal Monday morning crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota Highway 27 in western Minnesota. The Minnesota State Patrol had not released the names of the drivers involved but did confirm at least one person was killed.
