DULUTH — One person was killed and four others were injured in a single-vehicle crash early Monday, May 29, in Solway Township west of Duluth. Alcohol is believed to be a factor and charges are possible against the driver, authorities said. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Canosia and West Arrowhead roads at about 3:50 a.m. A vehicle with five occupants left the roadway and overturned, authorities said.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A 43-year-old Moorhead man was arrested after two teens reported being beaten a shovel and brick early Monday, May 29. Police arrested Jerome Walker, who was booked into jail on suspicion of two second-degree assault charges. Officers were dispatched for an assault report at 1:39 a.m. in south Moorhead. According to a news release, officers stopped one vehicle and the occupants — including Walker — said they had been at the location of the assault. At the scene, officers found male victims ages 18 and 16.
LINO LAKES, Minn. — An inmate who escaped with eight others after a transport van carrying prisoners was taken over early Friday was caught late in the afternoon on a Minneapolis bridge. James Douglas Mitchell, 26, was the last of the nine to be captured according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He was found on a bridge over Interstate 35 at about 4:25 p.m.
Minnesota Department of Corrections issued the following alert Friday, May 26, 2017: An offender at the MCF-Lino Lakes has taken control of a 2011 White Ford van with Minnesota license plate #937 EPJ, with multiple offenders in the vehicle. WASHINGTON — Members of Congress representing North Dakota and Minnesota broke along partisan lines in their reactions to the report released this week forecasting the impact of a health care reform bill passed by Republicans in the U.S. House. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office report, released Wednesday, May 24, estimated that the American Health Care Act passed May 4 would leave an additional 23 million without health insurance by 2026, compared to the existing law.
BEMIDJI TOWNSHIP, Minn. -- A Bemidji woman was killed Wednesday evening after the motorcycle she was driving was hit by a van. According to a news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, Vicki Inkel, 62, was driving a motorcycle north on Paul Bunyan Drive Southeast at about 5:09 p.m. when she was struck by a cargo van traveling east on 23rd Street Southeast. The driver of the van was identified as Thomas Kern, 54, of Bemidji. He was not hurt.
MOORHEAD, Minn. — A former employee of a Moorhead restaurant is accused of secretly filming women and at least one girl in the Moorhead restaurant's bathroom. Sam Thomas Hagen, 18, of Moorhead made his first appearance in Clay County District Court on Wednesday, May 24. He faces a felony charge of interfering with the privacy of a minor, as well as four misdemeanor counts of interfering with privacy.
ROSEAU, Minn. — A Roseau man died after his van crashed into a semi late Monday, May 22. Minnesota State Patrol says 42-year-old Jack Martin Dahl of Roseau was driving a Dodge Caravan east on Highway 11 when he crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound Kenworth semi near Roseau County Road 123. The crash was reported at 10:48 p.m. Dahl suffered fatal injuries in the crash while the semi driver, 52-year-old Todd Mitchell Harris of Alexandria, suffered non-life threatening injuries.
LUTSEN, Minn. -- A 41-year-old Eagan High School teacher died while competing in a Cook County trail race on Saturday. Jon Mathson was running in the 25-kilometer Superior Spring Trail Race when he collapsed on the trail in the vicinity of Lutsen Mountains resort just before 11 a.m., the Cook County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
WRENSHALL, Minn. -- A far northeast Minnesota home that was the site of an alleged kidnapping and assault last week was severely damaged in a fire early Monday, the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office reported.
