WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Court of Appeals has reversed a Willmar woman's conviction for aggravated forgery and identity theft because the district court should have suppressed biographical evidence gathered by agents from the U.S.
WILLMAR -- A 36-year-old Willmar man made his first court appearance Thursday on a felony charge of wrongfully obtaining assistance for allegedly collecting more than $68,000 in public assistance while also working under a false name. Unconditional bail was set at $30,000 for Ovidio Ochoa, who is also known as Israel Torres Marrero or Israel Torres. Conditional release was allowed on his personal recognizance, provided he remain living in Kandiyohi County and check in with probation officials at least three times a week. His next appearance is Oct.
WILLMAR -- Thomas Albert Wagar, 25, of Minneapolis, will stand trial Dec. 10 for allegedly possessing stolen, military-issue night vision goggles used by his father during a Sept. 16, 2008, homecoming incident that included spraying teens with a squirt gun filled with water and fox urine. The jury trial date was set during a conference Monday in Kandiyohi County District Court. Wagar faces a felony charge of possessing stolen property. The trial will be before District Judge David L.
NEW LONDON -- The New London-Spicer school board on Monday authorized the sale of $2.2 million in general obligation bonds to finance the district's other post-employment benefit obligations. The authorization will allow the board to approve the bond sale at the next meeting Sept. 28. The bond funding will be placed in an irrevocable trust, managed by a financial management firm, according to Superintendent Paul Carlson.
WILLMAR -- A 41-year-old Atwater man made his first court appearance Thursday on a felony assault charge for allegedly attempting to run down a 10-year-old child with a pickup. Brennan James Cave faces a second-degree assault charge, plus a misdemeanor for domestic assault. He was released on his personal recognizance. His next court date is Sept. 21. According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County Sheriff's detective began investigating a family services report that Cave had attempted to run down the 10-year-old on Aug. 8 in rural Atwater.
WILLMAR -- A 22-year-old Pennock man was sentenced Wednesday to 60 months in prison, which was stayed, 15 years of probation and $3,500 in fines for possessing a weapon as a person convicted of a violent crime and a misdemeanor driving while impaired charge. Jacob Allen Leuze was also ordered to serve 90 days in county jail, with credit for 25 days served.
WILLMAR -- A 76-year-old Pennock man made his first court appearance Wednesday for allegedly molesting a young girl years ago. Harvey Alford Carlson faces a second-degree criminal sexual conduct cha-rge in Kandiyohi County District Court. Unconditional bail was set at $100,000 with conditional bail allowed for $5,000. Conditions include no contact with the alleged victim, no firearms and no contact with anyone under the age of 16. Carlson's next appearance is Sept.
WILLMAR -- A 28-year-old Paynesville man made his first court appearance Tuesday on a felony charge of assault for allegedly attempting to run over several people with a vehicle Sunday morning. Robert Stanley Jones faces a second-degree assault charge, plus five misdemeanor charges for fifth-degree assault, driving while impaired and driving without a license. Unconditional bail was set at $20,000 and conditional bail for $400 cash only. His next appearance is Sept. 21. According to the complaint, two Kandiyohi County Sheriff's deputies were called around 1 a.m.
WILLMAR -- An 18-year-old Sparta, Wis., teenager made his first court appearance Friday on criminal sexual conduct charges for allegedly assaulting two young girls in April. Cameron John Waters faces two first-degree felony charges in Kandiyohi County District Court. Unconditional bail was set at $100,000. No conditional bail was allowed. His next appearance is Sept. 14. According to the complaint, a Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputy was called May 9 to a Lake Lillian residence regarding a sexual assault. A man there said that Waters had visited their home for a week in April.
WILLMAR -- A 31-year-old New London man pleaded guilty Thursday to a fifth-degree drug sale charge for running a marijuana growing operation in the basement of a home on North Long Lake. As part of a plea agreement reached in Kandiyohi County District Court, two additional fifth-degree drug possession charges against Marc Alan Gau-quie will be dismissed. He will be sentenced Oct.
