WILLMAR -- Esequiel Gomez Jr., 21, of Texas, pleaded guilty Thursday to an amended charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct for sexually assaulting a teenage girl last summer near the footbridge over the railroad tracks in Willmar. Assistant County Attorney Dain Olson noted for District Judge Donald M. Spilseth that the charge against Gomez would be reduced from first-degree level and that his 117-month sentence, nearly 10 years, would be an upward departure from state sentencing guidelines.
WILLMAR -- The Minnesota Supreme Court has issued a ruling in the case heard last fall before more than 500 students at Willmar Senior High School. The decision in the case, brought by J.J.P., a young man identified only by his initials because of his juvenile status, was partially affirmed, partially reversed and also remanded back to the district court in Hennepin County.
WILLMAR -- Jose Luis Ramos, 54, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Monday to a first-degree charge of criminal sexual conduct for molesting two young girls over a period of several years. As part of a plea agreement in Kandiyohi County District Court, eight additional counts, seven felonies and one gross misdemeanor, will be dismissed. He will be sentenced July 8. Ramos had been scheduled for a two-day jury trial next week before District Judge Donald M. Spilseth.

WILLMAR -- Darril Adali Guerrero Amaya, 20, of Willmar, pleaded guilty Monday to a second-degree riot charge for his role in an early morning stabbing incident in March that began as a fight over a soccer match. As part of a plea agreement reached in Kandiyohi County District Court, another felony for second-degree assault will be dismissed. Guerrero Amaya will be sentenced June 20. Guerrero Amaya was one of four men charged in the incident. Juan Carlos Bueso Dejesus, 31, makes his next appearance today. Selvin Eliazar Arevalo Lopez, 31, will appear next on July 8.
