HANCOCK — A December shooting at a Connecticut elementary school brought home the reality that crime can strike in rural areas and small towns. Some may assume these areas don’t have all the resources available in more populated cities to combat such situations, but an initiative started in west central Minnesota in 2007 has made it possible for rural residents to have the best protection and emergency response force available.
HANCOCK -- Two Burlington Northern Santa Fe train engines went off the tracks in Hancock, Minn. on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 20 while trying to clear snow. The derailment happened at the crossing of Main Street and Sixth Street in downtown Hancock. R.J. Corman Derailment Services arrived soon after with trucks loaded with special equipment used to put the two engines back on the tracks. The company was in the area responding to a derailment in Benson and were quick to the scene, officials reported. The tracks were cleared by 9 p.m.
