WILLMAR — When Willmar Fabrication realized its business was growing and expanding to the point where not everyone had the training they needed to completely fulfill their job duties, Human Resources Manager Angela Koosman reached out to Ridgewater College's Customized Training & Continuing Education program.
WILLMAR -- Rudy Donner and Corinne Hable have been named Kandiyohi County's Outstanding Senior Man and Woman for 2013. Donner, from Willmar, and Hable, from Lake Lillian, were honored during the Senior Day Ceremony Thursday at the Kandiyohi County Fair. Donner volunteers as the backroom assistant at the Willmar Area Food Shelf, and his nominator said Donner is "not afraid of hard work" and is willing to work additional hours. His nominator added that Donner "truly cares about the people the Willmar Area Food Shelf is serving."
WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Fair's secretary's office received a new home this summer. Thanks to the Minnesota Legislature's Legacy Grants, the fairgrounds' old log cabin was restored during the past two years, opening the entire building for displays by the Kandiyohi County Historical Society. This meant the office needed a new home, and the New London-Spicer FFA stepped in to help build a new building.
NEW LONDON -- There are just two working Ford Model K cars in the United States, and this weekend, both of those Model Ks are participating in the 27th annual New London to New Brighton Antique Car Run for the first time. Rob Heyen, of Milford, Neb., and Tim Kelly, of New Canaan, Conn., own the Model Ks, one of the rarest antique cars in existence.
WILLMAR --EMDASH-- Alex Taunton and Tristan Thompson waited with their freshly sheared and washed sheep outside the Kandiyohi County Fairgrounds' sheep barn Wednesday afternoon for their animals' turns to get weighed. The two New London teenagers said they had a busy afternoon ahead of them to make sure their sheep were ready to be shown in Wednesday evening's 4-H sheep show, as part of the Kandiyohi County Fair.
WILLMAR -- The land west of the Willmar Area Food Shelf will soon get a facelift, thanks to the combined efforts of the Willmar Design Center, the Southwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership and the Food Shelf. With a grant from the Southwest Partnership, the Design Center will soon start working on creating the Willmar Food Hub, which will consist of three parts and will put food on Willmar School District's students' plates.

WILLMAR - They have plenty of time to plan their futures, but 27 Willmar-area students are spending this week at Ridgewater College exploring their future career options. Ridgewater College Summer Camp, which focuses on a wide array of careers, leadership, team building and sportsmanship, runs through Thursday at Ridgewater College's Willmar campus.
WILLMAR - A 13-year-old Willmar boy had his biggest wish granted by the Minnesota Make-A-Wish Foundation Friday afternoon. Josh Eckhoff, the son of Trevor and Shannon Eckhoff, will get to meet a mask maker on a film set. "I'm really happy," Josh said after he found out his wish had been granted. "I'm kind of surprised too." In addition to meeting a mask maker on a film set, for which he is number one on the waiting list, Josh will spend four days and three nights in the city where the mask maker is working.
WILLMAR - She has volunteered in the Willmar community for almost 15 years, helping raise more than $200,000 for Relay for Life and helping raise more than $50,000 and delivering meals weekly for Meals on Wheels. Now, Vicki Dew's friends and co-workers are giving back to her while she battles stage 4 lymphoma. A benefit to help defray medical expenses will be held in Dew's honor from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Willmar.
