Fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety is urging consumers to use extra precautions when lighting and watching fireworks. In Minnesota any firework that leaves the ground or explodes is illegal. These include bottle rockets and Roman candles. “Have fun with your fireworks but be safe and only use the fireworks that are legal in Minnesota,” State Fire Marshal Bruce West said in a recent press release.
Adam Feichtinger spent four hours removing a potentially dangerous tree from his aunt’s yard Thursday while she was at work. However, he left a little more than a stump for her return. Feichtinger went to his aunt’s home with a chainsaw borrowed from his father and removed a tree that was hanging over both his aunt’s and her neighbor’s homes. When he got down to the last portion of the trunk, he decided to carve a wolf out of the remaining 5 or 6 feet. “I’ve done tree maintenance in the past, so removing the tree was the easy part and only took about an hour,” said Feichtinger.
WILLMAR -- A water main broke inside Cash Wise store on Monday morning flooding the video-rental section of the grocery store and closing the store temporarily. The store’s water main was shut off to prevent further flooding. Willmar’s fire chief closed the store due to water being unavailable for the fire suppression system and Cash Wise employees had to turn patrons away at the doors Monday morning. “However, a temporary fix to the water problem has been found,” said Rebecca Kurowski, Communications manager at Coborn’s Inc in St. Cloud.
