WATKINS -- A 69-year-old Watkins man was treated for injuries sustained in a rollover crash Monday afternoon near Watkins and then booked into the Meeker County Jail on fourth-degree drunken driving charges. According to a news release from Sheriff Jeff Norlin, law enforcement and emergency responders were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. Monday to 642nd Avenue in Forest Prairie Township for a single vehicle rollover crash. A 1995 Chevy pickup was southbound on 642nd Avenue in the area of 380th Street when it veered into the northbound lane, overcorrected and then rolled twice in the ditch.
RED LAKE FALLS, Minn. -- A Red Lake Falls man is dead after forcing his way into an ex-girlfriend's home and apparently shooting himself, according to police. Deputies from the Red Lake County Sheriff's Office found Kevin Salveson, 53, deceased in the home of Heather Altendorf, 38, about 4 p.m. Saturday in Red Lake Falls. Altendorf was transported to Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center for nonlife-threatening injuries she sustained when Salveson struck her in the face with the butt of a .308 caliber rifle.
MONTEVIDEO -- It's a safe bet to say there is only one mayor in all of southern Minnesota able to sing the Uruguayan national anthem in Spanish and in tune. That mayor is Debra Lee Fader of Montevideo, population 5,331. The mayor will soon be on her way to Montevideo, Uruguay, population 1.5 million, at the official invitation of the Uruguayan government. Fader will visit the South American capital as part of a sister city relationship that dates to 1905 and remains strong.
WILLMAR -- Motorists will no longer experience detours on state Highway 4 near Hector as crews have completed culvert and tile replacements. WILLMAR -- The Willmar Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that happened early Saturday morning and are asking anyone with information to call the department. According to a news release from Capt. Jim Felt, Mandy Sundin, 20, of Kandiyohi was driving a 1997 Dodge pickup westbound on U.S. Highway 12 and was struck by a southbound vehicle at the intersection with Lakeland Drive Southeast. The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. Saturday.
