I rarely respond to a critique of one of my letters because I too enjoy them. They don't happen often but in this instance I resent the unjust hammer blows given to me by a reader. I did not write the letter headline, "Real Americans must come first." I said " All Americans regardless of race, color or creed." That headlineg was done by the paper and I have no control over anything they choose to write.
Ed Mickelson has written one of the best letters I have read in this paper for ages. I was reading along agreeing with everything he wrote when I suddenly yelped at what I read because he had zapped me right between the eyes. If you missed it in Thursday's paper, hunt it down. The ending is so delicately written but so cleverly crafted—well, it's just plain wonderful.
This letter could save you from a migraine and certainly a lot of frustration. I'm talking about the U.S. Postal Service and the type of institution it is. For over 40 years I've hassled them about incorrectly delivered letters and packages sent to me or that I have never received. They have sent tracers with no results and every week I'm remailing something that isn't mine.
After reading the political endorsements of our paper, one a plus and the other a strong negative, I was chilled by the viciousness of the writing. Is that why so few good people of strong character who support a vision for change no longer go into politics? Most are the ones easy to fit into the mold, whose thinking will sway with whomever they are speaking to. In other words the suck-ups.
There are too many of you out there that can't see the forest for the trees. That mess in St. Cloud could have been many times worse if that armed, off-duty policeman hadn't shown up. Good grief, even Jesus says to arm yourself against the enemy. Do some of you think because St. Cloud is 60 miles away that that is such a vast distance that we can hide out here on the prairie and not be found? Well, let me tell you, my dear little snowflakes, we have been found!
Reading the recent West Central Tribune article about Meadow Star Dairy, I was in awe of the magnitude of the operation but when I read "the comfort of the cow is the primary goal", I thought, "Horse feathers, money is the only goal." So I started doing some research and this is what I found in Britannica Advocacy for Animals. The life expectancy for a cow, when it's free, is 20 years. The average factory cow is only three to four years because she is exhausted by the constant lactation and frequent disease.
Jesus Christ was not just a noisy little Jew with impossible demands. I think, when reading the Bible, a person must always keep common sense in mind. To me He was the epitome of a man. Physically strong, compassionate, great honesty and understanding of our vulnerability and weaknesses. I think the words “not to judge” are misunderstood and often used as a cop-out for not taking responsibility.
