WILLMAR — Three-foot snowdrifts and whiteout conditions are forecast Wednesday afternoon and evening for much of western and southern Minnesota.
HECTOR -- Two Willmar men were killed in a rollover accident Friday afternoon in Renville County. According to a news release from Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable, two unbelted passengers in a 2001 Dodge Caravan were ejected when the vehicle rolled over at about 3:15 p.m. Friday on Renville County Road 16, about 11 miles northwest of Hector. Jose Lopez Deleon, 31, and Julio A. Giron, 23, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s 2013 cash rent data released this fall showed that farmers in most of the counties in west central Minnesota were paying higher average cash rent for non-irrigated cropland than in 2012.
WILLMAR -- The deep freeze arrived today as promised, and the worst of the wind chills forecast over the next two days will occur right here in west central Minnesota. The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory starting at 6 p.m. today and continuing until noon Saturday.
WILLMAR -- Schools in the region are opening two hours late this morning after Wednesday's winter storm. Blowing snow is in the forecast today, with highs in the single digits and wind chills to 20 below. Crews clearing the roads of snow were expecting another long day today with the strong winds.

Halloween remains a popular holiday for young and old. A survey conducted last month for the National Retail Federation shows nearly 158 million consumers plan to participate in Halloween activities, slightly less than the survey high of 170 million people last year. The survey of 5,290 consumers conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics from Sept. 3-10 found that average spending is down slightly from last year. The average person expected to spend $75.03 on décor, costumes, candy and fun, down from $79.82 last year.
GRANITE FALLS -- The suspect in the Granite Falls double homicide is in custody. Yellow Medicine County Sheriff Bill Flaten confirmed Tuesday night that Andrew Joseph Dikken is in the Yellow Medicine County Jail in Granite Falls.
