MONTEVIDEO — Due to excessive rains and high waters along the Minnesota River near Montevideo, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has halted construction on the Lac qui Parle Dam. It was deemed unsafe to continue work on the project at this time. The Corp's maintenance and repair team was scheduled to replace the nine gates at the dam this fall. A cofferdam was to be constructed to block water flow as the gates were replaced.
GROVE CITY—An acetylene torch engulfed a rural Grove City shed in flames Monday night, completely gutting the structure valued at over $100,000. The fire was likely accidental, and began in a few corn stalks, Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze wrote in a message to media Tuesday morning. Joseph Flanders, 38, of rural Hawick, had been working with the torch Monday night in a shed on the 50700 block of Meeker County Road 3 when the corn stalks caught fire. Flanders safely escaped the shed with the farm equipment he'd been working on.
RENVILLE—A Crosby man was airlifted after a late-night rollover crash on Renville County Road 21 just northeast of Renville. At 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, Thomas Venne, 78, had been driving a 2005 International truck south on the county road, according to the Renville County Sheriff's Office. His truck and trailer drove into the southbound ditch, rolling onto the passenger's side.
