WILLMAR—Affiliated Community Medical Centers has announced the arrival of Dr. Douglas Soderberg, obstetrician and gynecologist. Soderberg will see gynecology, surgical and obstetrics patients. He will be available to see patients at the Willmar clinic every two weeks. An undergraduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Soderberg earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School. He interned at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Minnesota hospitals.

ST. PAUL—The first confirmation of a weed known as Palmer amaranth in Minnesota has been confirmed on a farm in Yellow Medicine County. In response, crop scientists at the University of Minnesota and officials at the Minnesota Department of Agriculture urge farmers to check fields for Palmer amaranth. It is an aggressive weed that can put corn and soybean crops at risk. A plant detected in a native seed planting plot on a Yellow Medicine County farm and was confirmed last week to be Palmer amaranth.

PAUL—Minnesota Farm Service Agency Executive Director Grant Herfindahl reminded farmers and ranchers this week of U.S. Department of Agriculture farm program benefits that may be available to help eligible producers recover from recent heavy rains and flooding.
