WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two bills sponsored by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar have been signed into law by President Donald Trump. The bills are designed to encourage women in science, technology, engineering and math. Klobuchar was the lead Senate author on one bill and the lead Senate Democrat on the other. Both had bipartisan support.
WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Township Association will conduct its annual meeting March 6 in Willmar. The event, which is open to the public, begins at 8 a.m. Monday with refreshments in the community room of the Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services Building. The business meeting and election of officers begins at 8:30 a.m. Guest speakers include Loren Engelby, Kandiyohi County public drainage manager; Wes Nelson, director of the Farm Service Agency in Kandiyohi County; and Mel Odens, Kandiyohi County Public Works Director.
WILLMAR — Renville Health Services in Renville and the Rice Care Center in Willmar are among the recipients of grants awarded by the LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation to boost the caregiving workforce. The funds were targeted to strategies that increase the quality, quantity and capacity of the caregiving workforce and improve the experience of care for older adults in rural Minnesota. Renville Health Services was awarded $25,000 to provide affordable day care on-site.

This is the records summary for Feb. 27. Phone scam ST.CLOUD — The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone scam that has victimized several people in the county. According to a news release, the Sheriff's Office fielded several reports about scammers who are calling individuals and reporting that the victim's grandchild is in jail. The suspects are identifying themselves as a supervisor at the jail. The suspect then directs the victim to purchase Walmart gift cards to be used to bail the grandchild out of jail.

The first was reported around 2:15 p.m. from the 1100 block of Grace Avenue Southwest. A man reported that his window had been kicked out, which he discovered after it was pointed out by a neighbor.
WILLMAR — The first-quarter operating profit for Jennie-O Turkey Store was down 25 percent even though the volume was up 22 percent and sales increased by 13 percent compared to the same time last year. The information was included in the first-quarter financial reports by Hormel Foods Corporation. "Earnings at Jennie-O Turkey Store declined compared to last year as turkey commodity prices were lower than we expected, " said Jim Snee, president and chief executive officer, in a news release.
WILLMAR — More than 60 local Diamond Edge Figure Skaters will present "Fire & Ice" at 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Willmar Civic Center. Fire and ice are two of the world's most powerful expressions of nature and the skaters will highlight them with choreography, synchronized to fire and ice musical renditions. The show will have a lights-out number and highlight a talented guest skater who's an expert in artistic choreography, Izzi Gorowsky.
