WILLMAR -- A homeowner and his dog escaped a burning house Saturday night in Willmar after passersby notified the resident that the house was on fire. According to Willmar Fire Chief Frank Hanson, the fire was reported at 8:47 p.m. in the 300 block of 13 Street Southeast. The fire was located on the northwest corner of the exterior of the house and caused extensive damage to the home, according to Hanson. The homeowner and his dog got out safely and there were no injuries.
ATWATER - An 18-year-old Atwater man was arrested early Sunday morning after leading a Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s deputy on a high-speed chase. According to a news release from the Sheriff’s office, the chase started shortly before 2 a.m. north of Atwater, on 180 Street Northeast, when a deputy attempted to stop a 2000 Chevrolet pickup. The pursuit continued for nine miles and reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. The chase ended on County Road 2, near 175 Street Northeast.
ROSCOE - A Willmar woman was injured in a head-on crash Saturday night on state Highway 23 near Roscoe after the driver of the other vehicle crossed the center line. According to the State Patrol, Jessie A. Jacobson, 53, was driving a 2015 Ford Taurus west on Highway 23 when a 1994 Dodge Intrepid, driven by Jeremy Christen, 25, of St. Joseph, crossed the center line. Jacobson attempted to avoid the collision but her vehicle was struck by the Intrepid. Both drivers were taken to St. Cloud Hospital for what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

WILLMAR — A meeting to discuss the upcoming legislative session will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Willmar. Sen. Lyle Koenen, DFL-Clara City, and Rep. Dave Baker, R-Willmar, will hold the joint town hall meeting at Cornerstone Coffee in the Skylark Center, 1604 South First Street in Willmar. “I am looking forward to meeting with constituents to hear their thoughts and priorities for the coming legislative session,” Baker said. “We have a lot of work to do in an abbreviated session this year and I am excited to get started.” The event is free and open to the public.
