WILLMAR (Staff reports) — The Minnesota Court of Appeals has affirmed the conviction of a Willmar man now serving a prison sentence for attempted, first-degree criminal sexual conduct. In an unpublished opinion filed Monday, the Court of Appeals found that the evidence supported the Nov. 25, 2014 conviction of Luis Fernando Escobar Chilel, 26, in district court in Kandiyohi County.

WILLMAR — Arc Kandiyohi County has changed its name, effective Feb. 1. The organization will not be called AIM of West Central Minnesota. AIM stands for Advocacy & Inclusion Matter. The organization core mission of providing support, advocacy and inclusion services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities will remain the same. Arc Kandiyohi County was one of several Arc chapters in the state and was an affiliate of Arc Minnesota.
The annual Polar Plunge on Green Lake raised at least $65,000 through the efforts of 320 plungers who braved the frigid waters of Green Lake Saturday. The fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota raises money to help provide children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition. This year’s plunge was the 12th of its kind at Saulsbury Beach in Spicer and is among 20 held statewide each January and February. The local event has raised more than $625,000 for its cause since 2005.
