According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Thomas John Oakes, 57, and Karen Kay Oakes, 56, both of Ortonville, were riding a 2014 Harley-Davidson north on state Highway 7 near Eternal Springs Road north of Ortonville when a deer ran into the road.
PAYNESVILLE — A teen from Redwood Falls was hurt Saturday when her personal watercraft struck a beached pontoon on Lake Koronis. The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said Makayla Lothert was operating the watercraft near the shore on the east side of Lake Koronis when she apparently struck the lower motor unit of a pontoon stored on a boat lift. The watercraft continued through an empty boat lift next to the pontoon, then sailed over a dock before she was thrown from the craft. She was taken to the Paynesville Hospital with moderate injuries.
REDWOOD FALLS — Both the driver and passenger of a car were killed Friday in a head-on collision with a semi on U.S. Highway 71. Justin Michael Ahrens, 38, of Morton, and Brittany Renae Olson, 25, of Redwood Falls, died when the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Ahrens crossed into oncoming traffic in Paxton Township of Redwood County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. BUFFALO — The late Dr. Marshall Kim Brinton, formerly of Willmar, was posthumously given the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association's Allied Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution and service to the poultry industry. The award was presented to Brinton's father, Gene Brinton, during the association's summer conference last week at Breezy Point.
