Two motor vehicle crashes in the area Saturday morning resulted in injuries, according to reports from the Minnesota State Patrol. A two-vehicle crash at 9:16 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 23 and 70th Street Southeast in Stoneham Township, Chippewa County, resulted in injuries to one of the drivers.The names of the drivers had not been released Saturday afternoon.

GRANITE FALLS — The Otto Bremer Trust awarded a $100,000 grant to Project Turnabout Centers for Addiction Recovery. The funds will support nonprofit business operations in serving people and families who seek treatment for drug, alcohol or gambling addiction. The grant allows Project Turnabout to update, improve and expand its health and financial information systems to meet current and future patient needs.

WILLMAR -- A pickup truck slammed into a Kandiyohi County squad car Thursday morning head-on as it was stopped at a crash scene, becoming the second of two crashes within minutes on the same stretch of Highway 71 south of Willmar. According to the State Patrol, the first crash happened just after 8 a.m., when a 2007 Dodge Caravan attempted to pass a 2003 Buick Rendezvous as both traveled south on Highway 71. The road was icy, and the Dodge lost control near 150th Avenue Southeast, sideswiping the buick and pushing it into the ditch.
WILLMAR -- In a chain reaction crash, a Kerkhoven man was hit by his own car Wednesday as he stood outside it on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 12. The State Patrol said Justin Lee Grothe, 32, had his 2004 Ford Ranger parked on the shoulder of Highway 12 as he stood outside it near 45th Street Northwest just outside of Willmar, clearing snow. Around 4 p.m., 25-year-old Ruth Anabel Anariba, of Willmar, was driving a 2004 Chrysler Sebring east on the highway. The roads were snow and ice-covered, and Anariba lost control of her vehicle.

ATWATER -- Three adults and one child were injured around noon Wednesday in a crash with semi truck on a snow and ice-covered U.S. Highway 12 in Atwater. According to the State Patrol, 34-year-old Jacob Wayne Streich of Atwater lost control of a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer as he drove west on the icy highway near Garfield Street. The vehicle traveled across the lane and slid sideways into an eastbound 2007 International semi truck, driven by 56-year-old Kevin Roy Lang of Cold Spring.
ATWATER — Pending the outcome of an environmental review, Bushmills Ethanol Inc. near Atwater will expand its facilities and increase annual production of denatured ethanol from 65 million gallons a year to 100 million gallons. Public comments on the project will be accepted until Feb. 8. Bushmills, a cooperative comprised of 415 farmers, owns a dry mill plant about 1½ miles west of Atwater that began operating in December of 2005.
