WILLMAR — Rice Regional Dental Clinic at Rice Memorial Hospital will join dental professionals across the country for the American Dental Association's 15th annual "Give Kids a Smile" day. The one-day event is Feb. 3 and provides free dental services to children whose families face barriers to dental care. Services include free oral screenings by a local volunteer dentist, cleanings, fluoride varnishes, sealants, oral hygiene instruction, and family dental education.

SPICER — The annual WinterFest celebration officially kicks off this weekend in Spicer, beginning four weeks of winter-themed activities in the community. WILLMAR — Robert E. Anderson of Willmar has received the 39th Willmar Kiwanis Touch A Life Award. Anderson, a graduate of Mankato State University, is an educator. He taught industrial arts/technology at Willmar Senior High School for over 30 years. He coached industrial technology teams that competed at the state level. He coached the swimming team for several years and was the advisor to the Willmar Senior High School Key Club for over 10 years. The Touch-A-Life Award is given in recognition of Bob's community service, particularly the following:
DASSEL -- A 21-year-old man was hospitalized early Wednesday after a head-on crash with a semi truck on U.S. Highway 12 east of Dassel. The crash happened around 1:40 a.m. Jaden Armondo Ritz, of Minneapolis, had been driving a 2013 Ford Escape west on the highway. Near 745th Avenue, he crossed the centerline of the highway and struck a semi truck head-on, according to the State Patrol.

Suspicious person KANDIYOHI — Around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman on the 8900 block of 30th Avenue Northeast in rural Kandiyohi reported seeing people walking near storage sheds that she owned. The woman told Kandiyohi County sheriff's deputies she was unsure if she had seen people, that it could have just been objects. Deputies checked the area but did not locate any people. They noted hearing coyotes howling very close and seeing fresh tracks. Weapons complaint
WILLMAR — The Minnesota Department of Health recently re-designated Rice Memorial Hospital as a Level III trauma hospital. The designation process included an outside review of the hospital's resources and capabilities to care for trauma patients. Rice Memorial Hospital met standards of commitment, clinical and equipment resources, and staff training. The hospital also participates in a continuous performance improvement process.
WILLMAR — Abby Christensen has joined Compassionate Cottage of Willmar as the activities coordinator and assistant housing director. A Willmar Senior High School graduate, Christensen earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southwest Minnesota State University. In 2014 she earned her activity director's certification and her social services designee in 2016.
