NEW LONDON — The fifth annual Minnesota BEST robotics competition takes place Friday and Saturday at the New London-Spicer High School. BEST stands for Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology. COSMOS—Two vehicles collided in a rural intersection northeast of Cosmos Wednesday afternoon, sending both drivers and a passenger to Meeker Memorial Hospital. The Meeker County Sheriff's Office is crediting seatbelts for saving their lives. Dee Smith, 47, Dimitri Lund, 20, and Levi Lund, 17, all of Rural Cosmos, sustained non-life threatening injuries in the 3:30 p.m. crash.
WILLMAR — Ties to Sweden run deep throughout Minnesota, and a Willmar native is getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to find out the depth of her Scandinavian ties. Sarah Steinman, a Willmar-born wilderness guide, who now resides in Minneapolis, spent May and June in Sweden filming her part of a genealogy-infused reality show called "Allt för Sverige," or the Great Swedish Adventure. The show premiered Sunday on SVT1, with the second episode to air Sunday at 8 p.m. Steinman was on hand for a premiere party in Minneapolis, according to her Facebook page.
Willmar native Josh Halverson is a member of Team Miley on The Voice which airs at 7 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC. Josh was raised by his mother, a Sioux Indian, and his dad, a busy cattle rancher. At 21, Josh moved to Southern California where he immersed himself in the music scene. However, living in California became too expensive, so he moved to Texas, where he now resides in Denton, Texas. Josh tours but also has to help his dad around the ranch to make ends meet.

The man, who was not named, suffered minor burns to both arms, according to a news release from Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Corporal Jason Keith. Keith said the man was transported to Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.
