WILLMAR — The Book World chain is liquidating and closing its stores, the Wisconsin-based company announced Tuesday. The closings include the Book World outlet at the Kandi Mall in Willmar, one of five Book World locations in Minnesota. The decision was triggered by changing retail trends, the company said in a statement issued Tuesday.
WILLMAR - A portion of Kandiyohi County Road 134 will be temporarily closed, starting Wednesday, as construction crews begin work on replacing a bridge northwest of Lake Lillian. The bridge is located two-tenths of a mile east of County Road 8. The road will remain closed in this area for approximately two weeks. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes.
A Sebeka man was killed Monday morning when the semi-truck he was driving collided with another semi at a highway intersection north of Morris. Roads were temporarily closed during the incident because one of the semis was transporting a hazardous material in the tanker. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Joseph Cecil Hensel, 61, of Sebeka, was killed when the 2003 Freightliner he was driving collided with a 2014 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by Alan Lee Powell, 63, of Mexico, Missouri.
WILLMAR — Amy Van Horne has joined Affiliated Community Medical Centers as a certified family nurse practitioner. She will begin seeing patients in November. Van Horne will work with family medicine physicians at ACMC to provide healthcare services to patients. A graduate of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, with a bachelor's in nursing, Van Horne worked 10 years as a registered nurse. She then earned her master's in nursing, with an emphasis in family nurse practitioner from Georgetown University.
WILLMAR — Christopher Schmitz has been promoted to the position of supervisor of finished products for the second shift at Jennie-O Turkey Store. Schmitz will be responsible for producing quality finished products, managing product yields, labor productivity and employee training. Schmitz first started at Jennie-O in 2016 as summer help in marketing. He returned this past summer as a production area intern and then was hired as a production supervisor trainee. Schmitz is working toward his bachelor's degree in business from Concordia University in St. Paul.
WILLMAR — Michael Dudgeon has accepted a promotion from Jennie-O Turkey Store to the position of overages, shortages and damages claims specialist. In the new role, Dudgeon will work with claims from carriers, shipping departments, customer service and customers. Dudgeon has worked at Jennie-O for two years as a distribution worker at the Melrose Plant.
WILLMAR — James Kroona, a emergency medical technician with the Willmar Ambulance Service, was one of the 10 individuals and organizations honored by Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths for their work to improve traffic safety. The awards were announced at the statewide TZD conference Oct. 26-27 in St. Paul. Kroona received the Emergency and Trauma Services Star Award, according to a news release from Minnesota TZD.
