In many west Central Minnesota cities there are competitive races but in some cities not enough candidates filed to run for the open seats. Accident WILLMAR — Two people were injured in a head-on crash Friday afternoon east of Willmar on U.S. Highway 12. According to the State Patrol report, at around 1:30 p.m. a 2003 Ford Focus driven by Bonifacio G. Vicuna, 34, of Willmar, was going west on Highway 12 near 45th Street and swerved over the center line "to avoid a crash" but then crashed head-on with an eastbound 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Silvio Guzman, Jr., 34, of Svea. The Ford Focus then rolled onto its roof.

BENSON—The pedestrian struck by a van early Monday in Benson has died. Wayne Nicholson, of Benson, died Wednesday at CentraCare Health in St. Cloud, according to the State Patrol. He was 78.

According to the State Patrol, Jerry J. Block, Kelly S. Block, and children Evan, 9, Nora, 7, and Brenna Block, 5, all of Cosmos, were injured in the crash on U.S. Highway 12 in Litchfield.
GREEN LAKE TOWNSHIP—Sarah Loso, of New London, was hospitalized Monday night after her vehicle went off a rural county road northwest of Henderson Lake in Green Lake Township. Loso, 36, had been driving a 1996 Jeep through the intersections of Kandiyohi County Roads 9 and 10. Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, her vehicle ran off the road, partially submerging in a slough north of the intersection, according to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office.
