BIRD ISLAND—Bird Island put on a clinic on Friday amateur game against Sacred Heart, dominating the Saints from start to finish to win 14-0. The Bullfrogs opened the game with three runs including a two-run double from Logan Swann who had a monster game. Swann went on to hit a three-run shot in the fifth as well as part of a nine-run inning. When all was said and done, Swann was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs scored.
WILLMAR—Willmar VFW I took on Willmar II on Thursday and the game went more or less according to plan, with VFW I winning 15-5 at Swansson Orange. VFW I's Jon Broman got things going from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored. He also had a triple in the game, one of three Willmar I hit. Drey Dirksen was the leading run producer, knocking in four. Jayden Dierenfeld hit behind him in the lineup and also drove in three.
WILLMAR—Tyler Johnson edged Will Jeseritz in a pitcher's duel as Willmar manufactured three runs in a 3-0 Legion baseball win over Granite Falls on Wednesday as Swansson Orange. Despite finishing with just two hits, Post 167 got all the offense it needed. Noah Vreeman scored two runs and Dalton Rambow added another. Rambow and Sam Warne had one hit each. It was all the scoring Johnson would need, as he scattered just three hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work.
WILLMAR—Willmar Levi Hauser tied for the best second-round score and placed third at the 90th Minnesota State Junior Boys' Championship on Wednesday at his home course, Eagle Creek Golf Club. Hauser, a Willmar prep golfer, shot a second-round score of 4-under 68 and finished alone in third at 141. Edina Country Club's Will Lonnquist also was 4-under on his second round and tied for fourth at 142. Minnesota Mr. Golf, Andrew Israelson, of Vintage Golf Club, won the championship with a 6-under 138, a stroke better than Ben Sigel of Windsong Farm.
