PAYNESVILLE -- Whitney Woehler homered and tripled to drive in four runs and spun a complete-game to help Paynesville upend New London-Spicer 8-4 in a West Central South Conference game Monday. Woehler clubbed a two-run homer over the fence in the second inning and tripled in two runs in the fifth for the Bulldogs (2-2, 6-2).
ALEXANDRIA -- Willmar is making up ground in the Central Lakes Conference tennis world. Last year they didn't win a point off Alexandria, which has won two straight loop titles. On Monday, Willmar (2-1, 3-1) fell 5-2 to Alexandria (4-0, 5-1) in a battle of league unbeatens. Two defeats came in three-setters. "Alex is tougher than I thought they'd be at singles after losing their 1-2-3," said Willmar coach Loren Holter. "We're lagging yet in doubles, but we'll see them again." Cass Magnuson beat two-time all-CLC choice Matt Verant 7-6, 6-2 at 2-singles.

ST. CLOUD -- Sartell and Samantha Sommers of St. Cloud Apollo repeated as winners at the second Central Lakes Conference girls golf meet of the season Tuesday at the Territory Golf Club. The Sabres beat runner-up Alexandria by 11 strokes while Willmar was eighth with a 428. Junior Dana Thompson paced the Cardinals with a 105. Sommers carded a four-over 76. MORRIS -- Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd claimed both the boys and girls titles Monday. The Eagles' boys squad had nine winners and 22 top-three finishes while the girls won 10 events and had 16 top-three finishes. AUSTIN -- The Ridgewater bats were smoldering after collecting 25 hits that produced 28 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep of Riverland on Saturday. Including the 30 runs the Warriors collected in a sweep over Minnesota West on Thursday, Ridgewater has scored 58 runs in its last four games, four straight games of 10-or-more runs. Ridgewater won the opener 13-3 in six innings as Tyler Horning belted a pair of two-run homers among the 12 hits the Warriors collected.
