WILLMAR -- The name of a 19-year-old Willmar man who apparently jumped to his death Wednesday evening on the state Highway 23 bypass will not be released until local officials receive the medical examiner's report declaring the individual's exact cause of death, according to Willmar Police Chief David Wyffels.
The man's body was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner after the incident, which was reported around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 12 East and the State Highway 23 bypass.
"We'd just as soon not release the name until we have a cause nailed down," Wyffels said Thursday afternoon.
Based on witness statements, officials suspect that the man jumped, fell or was launched from the bridge railing, Wyffels said. However, his body was then struck by a vehicle that was northbound on the bypass.
