Heritage Bank of Willmar has received the "Above and Beyond'' Award from the Minnesota Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Heritage Bank was originally nominated for a Patriot Award by Petty Officer Second Class Lourdez Schwab of Willmar. Schwab is a personal banker with Heritage Bank and will soon leave for a one-year deployment to Kuwait.

The "Above and Beyond'' Award is only given to 30 employers statewide and recognizes deserving employers who have shown goodwill and support in retaining Guard and Reserve members. Schwab, a married mother of three, said a big reason people don't re-enlist in the Guard or Reserve is due to a conflict with their employer. "Being deployed for any length of time puts a great strain on employers,'' she said. "Knowing I can return to my position at Heritage Bank at the end of my deployment is a huge weight off my shoulders.''
