HAWICK - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will hold a public information meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at the Roseville Township Hall, 15768 232nd Ave. N.E., Hawick, on the draft state permit for Dem-Con Landfill in Kandiyohi County.
The purpose of the meeting is for MPCA staff to present information on the proposed permit and to give citizens the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
Dem-Con is currently a Class 2 construction and demolition debris disposal facility. This proposed permit would change the facility classification from a Class 2 to Class 3 landfill. During a public comment period, citizens raised concerns about the potential for groundwater contamination.
The current facility includes a liner, a leachate collection system and groundwater monitoring network. In addition, the facility is required to have financial assurance for closure, postclosure and any related actions needed.
The landfill was recently purchased by Dem-Con of Shakopee.
