OLIVIA — Multiple businesses have opened in Renville County during the pandemic with business planning assistance from the Southwest Minnesota Small Business Development Center, according to a news release from the Marshall-based center.

  • Neil Balderston recently purchased a building in Olivia, and opened Balderston Auto Repair & Tire in March.
  • Jackie and Jeremy Hinderks felt the timing was right to follow their dreams of owning a restaurant, and purchased the Main Street Bar & Grill in Renville on March 29.
  • Nicole Johnson was looking for an opportunity to own her own business and purchased Olivia Floral & Gifts on June 4.
  • Ryan Meier purchased ST Sports and Special Touch Graphics in March of 2020, at the beginning of the state lockdowns.

Balderston has been in the automotive repair business for 14 years, and Balderston Automotive Repair & Tires is a full-service automotive repair and tires and sales business.

The Main Street Bar & Grill has served the Renville community for many years and both of the Hinderks have worked in the restaurant business.

Olivia Floral & Gifts was established in 1954 and offers a wide range of flowers and various other gifts.

The Southwest Small Business Development Center is located at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall and provides business assistance to businesses and individuals in 18 counties in southwest Minnesota.
