JAMESTOWN, N.D. - Several cars in a coal train on their way through Jamestown derailed Sunday morning on the west side of the city's rail yard.
Lt. Bruce Judd, the supervisor on duty at the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center Sunday afternoon, said the derailment happened at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning when a BNSF Railway train was coming through Jamestown.
Of the train's 123 cars, 21 derailed on the rail yard's west side and spilled coal.
Judd said the cleanup effort will likely take several days and has caused several street closings. He said Second Street Southwest is closed from its 900 block to the west and parts of 17th Avenue Southwest and other streets near the railroad are closed.
