WILLMAR — The new Caribou Cabin, the new small-shop concept from Caribou Coffee slated for Willmar, will be located at Legacy Commons, the retail strip center located on First Street South between Minnesota and Monongalia Avenues.

According to the Willmar Planning Commission meeting on Aug. 21, the building will be placed on the south side of the lot, next door to Giliberto's Mexican Taco Shop.

The Planning Commission approved the plan review at its meeting.

The cabin will be approximately 576 square feet, with no indoor seating. Instead there will be a single-lane drive-thru, with space for eight cars to line up, patio seating outside and a walk-up order window. Construction, and completion, of the store is expected this year, Planning Commission documents said. Based on concept art from Caribou Coffee, the cabin will be outfitted in the company's signature colors of teal and black and play off the North Woods theme of the chain.

There will be parking available for the coffee shop's employees and a few customers.

Caribou Coffee announced its newest store design earlier this week. Caribou Cabins will be popping up in five Minnesota cities this year — Willmar, Jordan, Burnsville, St. Peter and Big Lake.

According to the news release from Caribou Coffee, the new stores will focus on guest conveniences, speed and efficiency. There will be an expanded beverage menu, along with breakfast sandwiches and bakery items. The cabins will be the first location to offer Caribou's new line of beverages called Caribou Bou-sted, the release said.
