WILLMAR — Kandiyohi County Road 55 west of Willmar is now open for traffic, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.
The newly opened roadway can now be used to shorten the Minnesota Highway 40 detour that is in place due to the Willmar Wye railroad bypass construction.
The new detour allows motorists to use County Road 55, a portion of the realigned U.S. Highway 12, and Kandiyohi County Road 5. The detour is needed as Highway 40 remains closed between its intersections with County Roads 55 and 5.
Although shut down for winter, MnDOT reminds motorists that the bypass area remains a construction zone. There are roads that will remain closed and not be maintained, as well as unfinished areas and equipment parked throughout the site. Please use caution when traveling through the area.
