WILLMAR — Starting Monday, May 17, a section of old U.S. Highway 12 on the west edge of Willmar will be closed while crews reconstruct the intersection with the highway and Kandiyohi County 5.
The closure will last about two weeks, with a completion date of May 28.
The work is part of the ongoing Willmar Wye railroad bypass project, which includes the realignment of Highway 12, the reconstruction of state Highway 40 and construction of two new bridges and two single-lane roundabouts
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, the Old Highway 12 and County Road 5 intersection — which is near the BNSF crossing — will be open only to northbound and southbound traffic. A one-way flagging operation will be in place during daytime construction and two-way traffic will be restored during nighttime hours.
Motorists will be able to access businesses south of old Highway 12 by exiting north from the roundabout.
