Alzheimer's Walk draws record number of walkers in Willmar
WILLMAR — The seventh annual West Central Alzheimer's Walk at Robbins Island in Willmar Saturday morning reportedly drew a record number of walkers with more than 550 participants and 39 teams.
Prior to the walk a ceremony included a show of Promise Garden Flowers. The varying flower colors signify each participant's reason for walking: loss of a loved one to Alzheimer's or dementia - purple; supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer's or dementia - yellow; supporting the cause and a vision of a world without Alzheimer's - orange; and someone who has Alzheimer's or dementia - blue.
The walk was lead by a young participant carrying a white spinner flower, signifying the hope of there one day being life without Alzheimer's and dementia.
The walk brought in $54,000 on a goal of $68,000, according to organizers. People can still make a donation at alz.org/walk and search Willmar, through December 31.
