UPPER SIOUX COMMUNITY -- A fund-raising effort by Prairie's Edge Casino Resort has raised $12,000 to benefit the Yellow Medicine and Chippewa counties Relay for Life chapter, Rice Hospice and Granite Falls Hospital and Manor, according to a news release on the campaign.

The funds are being split among the three organizations as part of the effort to find a cure and support treatment for cancer survivors and their families.

The funds were presented during an event held last month at the casino and resort owned by the Upper Sioux Community.

The Yellow Medicine and Chippewa counties Relay for Life chapter will donate its share to the American Cancer Society. The Granite Falls branch of Rice Hospice will use its share of funds to supply patients with equipment, medications and other items.

Granite Falls Hospital will use its share to pay for mammograms for women who can't afford them.
