WILLMAR -- The Evangelical Free Church recently partnered with the Willmar Area Food Shelf, Second Harvest and Heartland Community Action, with plans to do so again in the future.
"We had a food distribution that was very successful where over 400 family units were served when Second Harvest sent a truck with 31,000 pounds of food and household items," said the Rev. Ben Green. "We have another one set for Sept. 20 at 9 a.m."
Although anyone can come, Second Harvest asks that people declare their income, as the program is primarily focused for people living on or below the poverty line. People in temporary economic crises also qualify for assistance with circumstantial information supplied.
Green said it's pretty simple, they just "come through and we serve them the food, and they get help taking the food out to their cars. Within about two hours, we end up helping a lot of people."
