Three Sisters Furnishings: The New London business is holding a fundraising with a goal of $5,000 for organizations such as Family Promise, Safe Avenues, The Link, Toys For Tots, and others. Willmar toy drive: Dec. 1-23, new unwrapped toys can be dropped off daily between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Willmar Community Center for the Kandiyohi County Toys for Tots.

Willmar Area Community Foundation

WILLMAR — The Willmar Area Community Foundation has opened its annual grant round to fund programs that focus on three different areas this year: addressing the achievement gap for youth, increasing community connections and welcoming diverse populations, and supporting productive aging.

Eligible organizations must be a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, school or government entity who serve residents of Kandiyohi County. For additional information and the online application, visit and scroll down to “WACF General Grants.” The deadline is Jan. 15.

This past year, the foundation invested $100,000 into the Willmar Area Response Fund which helps to support local relief efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic, including wide-scale initiatives to help meet critical basic needs as well as sustaining local organizations providing critical services through recovery.

2021 Polar Plunge

SPICER — Registration is now open for the 2021 Polar Plunge to raise money for Special Olympics Minnesota. Sponsored by area law enforcement, the Willmar/Spicer plunge will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 on Green Lake in Spicer. There is also the opportunity to do a “virtual plunge.” The managers for the in-person plunge are closely monitoring the governor’s executive orders and guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health on COVID-19 safety guidelines and will adjust the events as needed to ensure safety for all.

Those wishing to do a virtual plunge, the rules are simple: Get cold, be safe and don’t forget to document it. Virtual plungers should never attempt to jump into a lake, river or any other body of water for the virtual plunge.

Habitat for Humanity

WILLMAR — Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota ReStore is accepting donations of building materials, large appliances, furniture and more. All donations must be approved by staff before acceptance.
